Sauk City Fire Department

Winter Brings New Challenges

Fire Fighting does not wait for good weather or the appropriate time of day.  Fighting fire with snow, fog and in the dark of night creates a new dimension to contend with for fire suppression.

You can practice your attack, but what is not seen in this picture is the crane that is on fire had looped the cable over the high power line.  Waiting for the power to be cut to provide a safe approach, allowed the fire to progress more than we would have liked.

A fire suppression is challenging enough and this time of year we add snow, ice, cold and unpredictable elements.  We are always a phone call away and focus on each situation in a unique fashion because no two situations are the same.  Happy Holidays

Why Does the Fire Dept Respond to Car Crashes

The first response by fire is to focus on the potential threat of entrapment.  But the complexity of car crashes and the safety of personnel at the scene are also the primary focus of a successful response to a car crash.  In cooperation with our other emergency response team, like EMS and Police, the fire department is trained to reduce the risks in the accidental discharge of airbags and other safety devices built into cars.

In addition, you may see the fire department waving you through to control the speed.  It may look like over kill, but the assistance from the fire department allows the police and EMS to focus on their individual challenges at hand, patient safety and accident investigation.  Give us a hand by slowing down at a scene and giving us some room to work.
